Amazon Dreaming…
This will be the first year in seven years that I will not be heading down to Brazil in winter. With lots of home things to take care of this winter I had to pass up fishing in one of my favorite places in the world. Now, with winter in full effect and snow on the ground it has me dreaming of warm days in the jungle.
The Amazon is a place that will fully suck you into the environment. It's hard not to be engulfed in the jungle with all the activity around you. From the howler monkeys calling to the birds chirping and the bees buzzing there is always life happening around you, reminding you are in this massive environment.
The fishing is always explosive, even on the harder days. The violent eats of even the smaller fish putting your nine weight rod to work is hard to beat. It’s hard to compare anything to the Rio Negro in February.
Aside from the place and the fish themselves, it’s the people I will miss the most! Michael Williams of Nomadic Waters is hands down one of the best outfitters I have ever fished with. His choice of guides is at top of the game, choosing only the best guides for the water they are fishing. Their understanding of the waters and how to approach it is mind blowing.
Several times we have passed sections of water that look so fishy only to fish a spot with the similar structure but is loaded with fish. You could spend a lifetime in the amazon and never have the knowledge Nomadic’s guides have. Not only are his guides top notch, sharing their knowledge every time we fish, but they have also become my family. I look forward to hearing about their families, how their kids are doing, and sharing jokes we have shared for years. I will miss the fish for sure but not seeing friends will be the hardest.
The good news is, it’s only one year. I will be back next year for sure and looking for clients that would like to experience one of, if not the coolest fisheries the world has to offer. I’m always trying to expand and find new places to share with clients and if I had one place to go it would be fishing Brazil with Nomadic Waters.
