summer update
we are half way through our summer smallmouth season and we have had some ups and downs. By up and downs I mean fishing has been good but water has been down. for most off our summer the water has been very low and hot keeping the fish tight to banks in shade and not wanting to move to far to eat. I always separate tough fishing from technical. Tough fishing is muddy water, fish just not eating and things out of your control , technical fishing is when fish will eat but a few feet will make the difference in an eat or not. That has been the name of the game this season for sure and really working all the angles to throughly cover all the water.
With some recent rains it has brought flows up for a short period of time and water temps down. With this drop in water temps fishing got really good with high numbers and good size days. It was like every fish in the river was eating for a few days. Unfortunately the flows came back down to what we have had all summer. That being said the water temp is much better and these next few warm up days should have them fired up. Bug season is still going strong and looking forward to the next two months of what I call the best of the summer!
